Update on new Water Main on Huxley Lane

Posted by on 4:02 pm in Latest News | Comments Off on Update on new Water Main on Huxley Lane

Work is progressing down Huxley Lane with the installation of a new water main, albeit slower than was originally envisaged. The current plan is that work will cease on 20th December for Christmas and New Year.  When work recommences on the 6th January Huxley Lane will be closed from the A49 up to Rose Cottage for 2 weeks. The full water main installation is due to be completed by mid February.

As part of this process a considerable amount of damage has been done to the grass verges and Smithy Green in particular, but we have been assured by United Utilities that they will make good the damage caused by themselves, but probably not until the spring when grass starts to grow again.

The work on the replacement water main on Huxley Lane is progressing, but due to adverse weather conditions and some unexpected issues it is likely to take longer than 8 weeks. Rather than being completed by the end of November as originally hoped, the work is likely to continue to the 17th January. Work will cease on the 20th December and start up again in the New Year.

Unfortunately it will be necessary to close the road completely as the work moves closer to the A49, as the two-way traffic light system being used further away will not leave enough room for larger vehicles to pass through.

You will also have noticed that Smithy Green has been badly damaged by contractor vehicles. We are assured by United Utilities that this will be put right once the work is complete.
