The Village History Day on 20 March
was a great success with nearly 200 visitors during the day, many of whom
stayed more than an hour. Stephen O’Brien our MP kindly opened the day and has
since sent a letter saying how much he enjoyed the event and the Exhibits. The
purpose of the event was to make people aware that we are developing a Parish
Plan with grant aid from the Countryside Agency. I would like to thank
everybody who helped out in the organising and on the day and in particular Liz
Scott who is leading the Parish Plan efforts. The material and data we used in
the History Day is now on the Village computer and all residents can have
access to it, so just ask.
Many people who attended filled in a
brief questionnaire that has given us the basis to compile a detailed
questionnaire about what you the residents want of our villages. This will be
distributed to residents in July and I would urge everybody to fill in and
return it so that you will have an influence on the future of the area you live
in.
The Governments commitment to
devolved decision making will mean that Parish Councils will have a greater say
in areas such as planning. If we include our desires on future developments in
our Parish Plan it will carry much greater weight in the County Planning
process. The Parish Plan is not limited in its scope so please raise any areas
of concern where you have a view. The timescale for completion of the Plan is
the end of this year.
We will need helpers in various
village areas for a few hours delivering and collecting the questionnaires so
please give me a call and do your bit for your community.
Some of you may have noticed that we
now have a Village Orderly who can be seen around the villages in a Yellow
“Chester City Council” jacket. The Parish Council employs him but the costs are
being met by the City council. His function is to keep the place tidy with
respect to litter, verges and the greens and he is doing a great job. If there
are any small tasks you feel need doing please let me know but bear in mind
that he does not have a JCB!
I wish I could say the same about
United Utilities plc who have “resurfaced” the entrance path to the Sewage
Plant in Huxley Lane. They have done this with ground up waste consisting
mainly of glass, stone and bits of scrap metal and despite promising 3 months
ago to apply a tarmac surface they have so far done absolutely nothing. As a
result the vehicles using this path are spreading the waste on to the road.
Please be assured we intend to have
this rectified and if necessary we may have to resort to direct action.
Villages will shortly have a Web
Site www.tiverton-cheshire.org.uk
and amongst other things there will be space for local small businesses to have
an entry for free.
Our thanks for the work of setting
this up go to Steve Armitage.

re-elected. Please make a note that as
