At the Annual Parish Meeting
on Tuesday May 14th 2002 I took over the Chairmanship of the Parish
Council from Janice Farrall who retired from the post. The Chairman’s role is now a rotational one,
in order to give all members of the Parish Council the opportunity of serving
as Chairman and thus bring new ideas and zest into the post, and we hope will
give relief to the incumbent Chairman in what is a very exacting task.
Janice Farrall has been
Chairman during a period of great change and has met the many challenges that
have occurred in a calm, very diligent and enthusiastic way. Our thanks and sincere best wishes go to
Janice. She will be a hard act to
follow, I will try to do my best with the support of my colleague councillors
and by you all. Janice will continue as
a Parish Councillor.
Our sincere thanks also go
to Denise Halstead who has decided to resign as a Parish Councillor after a
number of years in the post. Her
valuable contribution will be missed.
Our thanks go to the Jubilee
Celebrations Committee and all the helpers who made June 3rd such a
memorable day and our thanks also go wholeheartedly to the people of Tiverton
who turned out in the most atrocious weather to enjoy themselves at the Hockey
Field and at the dance in the Village Hall in the evening. Well done everyone.
The next Parish Council
meeting will be on Tuesday June 18th, with the open session starting
at 7.30pm followed by the meeting at 8pm.
I look forward to seeing you there.
I will be relinquishing the
area coordinator role of Homewatch shortly and details will be announced at the
Parish Council meeting on June 18th.

Tiverton Jubilee Day – 3rd June 2002
Despite weather varying from
poor to dreadful our Jubilee Sports provided fun for all. We had a very colourful turnout for the
crowns parade with a wide age range.
Derek Marshall was the diplomatic judge who selected Alex Wilson as
winner of the boys competition and the girl’s title went to Natalie
McClay. Pictures will be on display
later thanks to our photographer Ian Lambert.
Diane, Rowena and Roger did
a roaring trade on the barbeque with “seconds” in great demand, a complete sell
out as was the Tombola stall with it’s 120 donated prizes under the charge of
Derek and Madge Marshall.
Chris Cox did a marvelous
job of organising the Sports Day which despite the rain gave lots of fun to the
many brave souls who took part. Rain
stopped play at about 2.30pm at which time we adjourned to the Village Hall
where children (and parents) had a tea party and a good romp around.
The dance in the evening was
a great success with all tickets sold.
Many commentated on The Kads group and no complaints have yet been
received about excess noise.
All the children in the
village received a china commemorative plaque and the medals issued on the day
were very popular, there are only 100 with the Tiverton Jubilee Day inscription
so they could be a collectors item in another 50 years!
Thanks go to all who
contributed with donations, tombola prizes, organisation, distribution and just
good wishes, but above all to the village which turned out in force to make a
success of the day. Grateful acknowledgement
to Chester City Council for our £250 Community Chest grant, the Hockey Club for
their donation of space (and clubhouse), The Garden Club for wine for the Loyal
Toast and to Mr Shaw of Pudding Lane for the gift of a flag pole for permanent
use at the Village Hall frontage.
A meeting will be held at
the Village Hall at 7.30pm on Wednesday 12th June to wind up the
event and to discuss the idea of making this an annual village day. As a result of the superb support it
received we have a surplus fund of over £300 which could finance future events
if this is what the village would like.
Come and make your feelings known and join in the work (and fun) and
THANK YOU ALL.
P.S. The winning lucky
number programme was 68, if this is the number on the top of your programme
please contact Audrey Povall on 733520 to receive your bottle of Champagne.
