Chairman’s Letter

This months Newsletter has a lot of information about events and activities so I will let them speak for themselves. However I would just like to make the point that the Parish Council are trying to make our area a better place to live in and while that includes things such as grass mowing, litter removal and staging events we are also aware that there are people who like to live here and keep themselves to themselves. We are trying to balance making facilities available for people without pushing people into becoming involved where they don’t want to. When the responses to the Parish Plan questionnaire are analysed there may be indications that people want many things to stay just as they are and the Parish Council has a duty to respect that.

I would also stress the point that the Parish Plan is an initiative of the Parish Council and has not been instigated or directed by Local or National Government in any way.

Parish Council Meeting

The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place in Tiverton Village Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday 14 September. The first 30 minutes will be an open forum for residents to raise any issues they wish.

Parish Plan

The Parish Plan questionnaires should by now have been collected or returned and we would like to thank everybody who took part for their responses. We have had an excellent response with a 50% return rate (88 from Tiverton, 19 from Tilstone Fearnall) and a lot people putting their names forward to participate in developing the Plan.  We are now analysing the results following which we will set up Focus Groups to deal with each of the relevant issues. The aim is to complete the plan by the end of January 2005.

Garden Club

The Garden Club recently entered the Quiz competition organized by Reaseheath College Cheshire Garden Club and after several months of competition reached the final at the College. They were just beaten on the day by Tattenhall but it was a great achievement to get that far at the first attempt.

The Club Autumn Show is on Sat 4 September this year. Schedules and details from Audrey Povall on 733520. It opens to the public after judging at 2.00pm and all are welcome.

The Club meets in the Village Hall on the first Tuesday of every month and at the meeting on 7 Sept. Anne Lewis will give a talk on “Your Garden in Late Summer”, all are welcome to attend.

Open Gardens Day

There are many lovely gardens within our 2 villages and it has been suggested that next year we could have a day when residents open their Gardens and people could go from one to another on a planned route. The idea would be to raise money for Charity so if you would be willing to let people come through your garden please contact Audrey on 733520. If we get enough response we will organise it.

Footpath Noticeboard

You may have seen the new noticeboard by the Millenium Notice Board on the A49 Service Road; this serves to publicise local rights of way and transport arrangement eg local bus services.  Leader+ funding for rural regeneration has paid for it.

For anyone who has not yet purchased their copy of the Tiverton Footpath Guide, it can be obtained from the Beeston Stores for £2.

Barn Dance and Barbecue

Sat. 28 August 2004

A Barn Dance will be held on the above date in the Village Hall with a covered  Barbecue outside. Dave Brewin from the Beeston Village Shop will be doing the catering and we will be well entertained by our caller Ian MacDougall and  the excellent band Flaxmere. If you haven’t tried it before it is a great deal of fun and you don’t need any previous experience as Ian takes you through the various steps. Tickets are very good value at £7.50 including the Barbecue. Bring your own drinks as usual. Book early as numbers are strictly limited.

Tickets from Roger Cheshire 732059 or Beeston Shop opposite the Beeston Castle Hotel.
