TIVERTON &
TILSTONE FEARNALL
PARISH NEWS
May 2005
This will be my last
letter as Chairman since at the Annual Parish Council Meeting on 24 May Liz
Scott was elected as Chair. I would like at this point to express my sincere
thanks for all the support I have received during my 2 years as Chairman and to
ask everybody to support Liz who I know will do a great job.
The past year has
been dominated by the preparation of the Parish Plan and by Planning
Applications, particularly those involving telecommunications masts.
The Parish Plan is a
very important document for our two villages since the content of the Plan will
set the scene for the aspirations and hence the policies which the Parish
Council will pursue.
If we have clearly
defined policies then the City and County Councils will be required to take
them into account in the decision making processes for matters such as
Transport, Housing, Planning and any other areas we have identified. The next
step following publication of the Plan will be to ensure that momentum is not
lost and that all the issues which residents identified will be implemented.
The Parish Plan has
not come about by accident and I would like to express on behalf of everybody
our thanks for the great efforts which Liz Scott as Chair and her Committee
Members have put in to produce the Plan. Copies of the Plan will be
available on Village Day (16 July).
We have during the
year dealt with a number of applications for siting of telecommunications masts
and thankfully these have been refused. I would reiterate that the Parish
Council is not against these masts being erected since we have to accept that
there is a need for them. However what we have been against is the siting of
them in completely unsuitable positions which we feel have been chosen by the
applicants purely for their convenience and the saving of a relatively small
amount of money.
If the applicants
spent more time consulting with local Parish Councils prior to making
applications instead of trying to keep them secret until the last possible
moment they might achieve their objectives with a lot less waste of their own
and other people’s time and money.
