Chairman’= s Letter

Once again we have an application for a Telecommunications mast in the village. The Parish Council is not against t= hese masts as a matter of course since we have to accept that they must go somewhere. However what does concern us is that the type of mast proposed i= s a much higher powered mast than those placed in towns and cities which are designed for covering a small area.

It is therefore only right that in a rural area su= ch as ours they should be sighted in open space well away from houses. The lat= est advice from NRPB strongly reinforces that view.

We also have a serious issue with the way the City Council deal with these applications in terms of consultation and we will be pressing very hard to resolve that, particularly since NRPB have recommende= d an independent review of the consultation process.

Chairman Tiverton & Tilstone Fearnall Parish Council

Parish Council Meeting

The next meeting of t= he Parish Council will take place in Tiverton Village Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday 8 Mar= ch 2005. The first 30 minutes will be an open forum for residents to raise any issues they wish.

Beeston Village Shop

The B= eeston Village shop opposite the Beeston Castle Hotel provides a really good service to Tiverton Village with a wide range of goods other than Newspapers and Confectionery. It also stocks meat, bread, milk, most everyday grocery items and a good range of g= ame. It cannot compete fully with the big supermarkets but it is very handy to be able to pick up a few items without having to travel a great distance. Howe= ver if people do not use it to buy some of their day to day groceries it will n= ot be able to remain open in the long term.

The Parish Council would urge all residents to use the shop as much as they can. Use it or lose it!

Village Fete

We are planning to hold another Village Fete this year but it will not happen by accident. If you enjoy the Fete and want it to continue we really need your help. If you have any suggestions for activities or are willing to help organizing it please ring Roger Cheshire on 732059. We also need to have a small (3-4) group of peopl= e, separate from the council who will help to organize Social events such as dances, walks etc. If you can give a little time it would only be on an infrequent basis but will ensure some continuity.

A49 Lighting

One of the issues in the Parish = Plan survey which did not emerge clearly was the question of street lighting on = the A49 from the RedFox to the Canal. If you live in that part of the village y= ou will know that it is very dark at night if you have to walk anywhere.<= /o:p>

Overhanging Trees

We have been asked by the City Council to point out that house owners whose property adjoins the road have= a duty to ensure that any overhanging trees and shrubs do not obstruct the pavement or footpaths. In the event of any accident or damage to third part= ies the house owner would be liable. If it applies please arrange to have them trimmed. If you are unable to do so for a good reason our village orderly w= ill help.

As spring approaches please be vigilant about bogus callers and do not open your door to strangers without establishing who they are. Also we advise that you do not do business with = door to door callers unless they represent a reputable company which you are awa= re of. There are more and more cases of “tradesmen” offering to do work for a certain price and then demanding more money by intimidation when they have finished.

Tiverton District Garden Club

Meets monthly on first Tuesday in each month in Tiverton Village Hall at 8pm. The Club welcomes everyone, members and non-members. The membership fee of £2 (do= uble £3) offers an entertaining and varied programme of talks and visits as well as discounted seed orders, 10% discount at a local nursery. Tow open Shows take place each Spring and Autumn with classes to enter for all interests.

Parish Plan

Following on from the survey the various working groups are near to concluding their texts and the general body of the report is in draft form. We expect to fin= ish it by March and have it adopted as Parish Policy soon after.<= /b>

Drop-In Coffee Morni= ng at Tiverton Village Hall

Drop-In coffee Mornings will restart on Thursday 24^th February in the Village Hall and become a regular event on the last Thursday in each month,

All are welcome, to catch up on friends or find out what is going on in Tiverton over a cup of coffee. Do try = and find time to drop in between 10:30 and 12:00am.
