WALKING  AROUND TIVERTON AND TILSTONE FEARNALL

Tiverton Parish is well served by 30 footpaths in with a total distance of 21Km. The Sandstone Trail runs roughly North to South through the middle of Tiverton and the towpath beside the Shropshire Union Canal provides a pleasant walk East to West through both parishes.

Tilstone Fearnall has  11 footpaths extending to 7Km in total.  There are no Bridal Ways or RUPPS in either Parish.

Footpath Guide

A recent (2004) guide to local walking is available, entitled "Tiverton,  A Footpath Guide" price £2. The guide contains details of 8 walks varying between 7 and 10Km in length, all starting from Smithy Green at the junction of Huxley Lane and A49 where there is good carparking.

As well as detailed directions and maps, the guide gives some local history information.

Copies can be obtained from info@tiverton-cheshire.org.uk (an A5 envelope with stamps to cover 61gm weight will be required) and enclose cheque for £2 payable to Tiverton Village Hall

Kissing Gate Project (2007)

This project aims to replace around 12 wooden stiles with metal kissing gate stiles.  In some cases this is purely for maintenance reasons - the wooden stiles need replacing, in other cases it is to improve access to the footpath or remove right of way ambiguities.

Whilst the stiles come from the County Council and are 'free' to the parish, there is an installation charge of £75 per stile that will be met from parish plan funds.  The replacements will require the consent of the landowner and discussions are ongoing in this respect.

Full details of the proposed stile locations can be found by clicking here

Please email any comments on the proposals to info@tiverton-cheshire.org.uk
